About the Artist

Wen-Shu Lee Wu, originally an interior designer in Taiwan, has been painting in Williamsburg, Virginia since 1984, when she and her husband immigrated to the U.S. with their two young daughters.

Studying with Paul Helfrich and Barclay Sheaks, she has cultivated a unique abstract and semi-abstract style. Her works are often inspired by forms, lines, and textures found in natural objects, such as rocks, leaves, shells, and flowers. She enjoys working in the abstract style not only for the compositional freedom but also for the unlimited possibilities in the creative process itself. In the same way, she would like viewers of her work to enjoy the freedom of their unique interpretations.

In recent years, Wu has expanded her creativity and design skills to include jewelry making. Her beadwork is patterned as well as free form, often resulting in unique creations reminiscent of her abstract paintings.

Wu has won awards for her paintings at the College of William and Mary and This Century Gallery. She was also awarded honorable mention for her jewelry in the "Best of Virginia Artists & Artisans 2005" juried book competition. Her work has been exhibited in a solo show at the Trellis Restaurant. Currently, her paintings and jewelry are exhibited at the New Town Art Gallery in Williamsburg, Virginia.
